Running

When I was in college I dated a runner. A division II, All American, collegiate runner. A run every day runner. A cross country race runner. A person whose passion was running. A person who wanted me to become a runner. In fact his dream woman would best be described a long haired, long legged native American Indian type marathoner woman. Just picture Pocahontas in the Boston Marathon and you'll get my drift. I, however, did not run. I am of good solid German heritage and would not be called "leggy" by any means. Futhermore, I could not comprehend the "run for the sake of running" attitude.

In college, I liked to drink. So I bought a bike. My rationale was that he could run and I could ride my bike. I vividly remember a hot summer day, when we "went for a run" for like 10 miles, through the rolling countryside of beautiful Hillsdale county. I could not appreciate the rolling hills because he actually had to push me up the hills on my bike while he ran. Sad. I actually experienced eating the dust he kicked up in front of me while I puffed along behind him trying to catch my breath. I vowed at that moment that I would never be a runner.

Well, as the story goes, we went our separate ways. He ended up a very successful high school track and cross country coach. He married a girl with little resemblence to Pocahontas.

Ironically now I am running! I am even enjoying it (gasp). I hope to run a 5K or two this summer with Matt...a man who appreciates a fine, German woman.

Never say never.

86 years

Grandpa Hunter turned 86 on Sunday! Happy Birthday!

Mohawk

When Chooch was a baby he had a mohawk. It just naturally stuck up like that. So Matt had his hair cut into a mohawk last week. So cute, so Chooch!

The wonderful DVR!

After much resistance to the idea of a DVR, (I couldn't justify paying MORE money to watch television) but I finally caved last summer. Now I can say the only live TV I watch is the news. I haven't seen commercials in months! DVR is the best invention in my adult life.

Anyone with little kids can appreciate the hoopla of trying to get them washed, in jammies, homework done, stories read, bedtime snacked, songs sung and into bed in time for the start of Gray's Anatomy!

Don't even get me started on programming the VCR, especially with a digital cable box connected to a non digital TV. How do you get it to record a show on channel 168?! NO MORE! With the DVR it is point, press and away-ay we go! With a few more clicks, the whole series is set to record!

Now I can watch Gray's, Lost, Friday Night Lights, ER, and all my other favorites at my leisure! Hooray for technology. Of course, this also means wading through Matt's recordings of Gettin' Close, Dream Season, The Truth About Hunting, Drury Outdoors, Ted Nugent's Spirit of the Wild, AND Poker after Dark, World Series of Poker and High Stakes Poker...whew...pretty soon we might run out of recording room!

I know, I'm a geek. I don't deny it.

Saturday night in my bedroom

I've been thinking for a whole day about how I can possibly sum up the events that took place in my bedroom on Saturday night...

Take 8 people + beer + my king size bed + Guitar Hero and what do you get!?!

Amy "Warpig" the leader of "Integrity"
Russ "Lead singer of 3KD" and "Everyone wants to be a Rock Star"
J-bear "You've come along way" Baby
Matt "Song Failed" Osto
George "I don't like toys"
Gil (aka Bill) "I got a lot of free shit tonight"
Kelly "spank my booty"
and Amy "Gene Simmon's tongue" Osto!

Sounds kinda like a bunch of swingers, but we were really just "swinging" to Amy T's guitar licks on Warpigs! Not to mention Strutter, Shout at the Devil, Rock this Town and a bunch of others. Ten minutes of Guitar Hero and you are on your way to Target to spend $350! Too much fun.

Camp Osto - this summer

Its snowy there now, but we are thinking summer! We are trying to plan some family / friend time at Camp Osto this summer. If you are interested in camping, please drop us a line! We will post some dates soon.

What's New?

The Camp Osto update....

The basement did not flood this spring, even though there was a slow trickle in the basement bathroom. This means $$$ at some point in time, just not sure where to begin! ugh.

Chooch decided to rub red jello all over himself and the kitchen counter tonight. He may be stained red for a few days!

Cal has lost her library book. At least two boys love her at school. =) Her new favorite song is the one that is playing. "Year 3000"

TJ finished 9th (out of the pack) in the Pinewood derby last weekend.

Matt bought me an ipod, so I must now accessorize!

After two liters of fluid and a couple rounds of meds, two visits to the ER, and being 14 pounds lighter, Matt has recovered from Montezuma's revenge! Not sure I will ever get him back to Mexico after last week. Just glad we were healthy when we were vacationing.

Office Art Work

My office is picking out new art work for the walls. And 85% of the people I work with have chosen those "successories" things - you know with the pretty pictures, motivational sayings and titles like "Motivation" and "Achievement." I say Blech! I wonder if anyone would notice if I put up these instead?

Thirty-five

I'm turned thirty five on Feb. 26. Thirty-five. 35.
I'm as close to fifty as I am far from 20. My dad always told me that his thirties were some of his best years...a little wiser, a little more money in the pocket, a little more settled in life. I have to agree! I think I have been happier in my thirties than I have been so far in my life. I think my family has a lot to do with that! I guess we have to embrace that we can't go back.

My Celebrity Look-alikes

I read a really interesting article about a guy who was trying to find real life look alikes that weren't related. So in my net travels, I came across a cool site that finds celebrity look alikes based on a photo I provided. I'm not sure I agree with all the matches, and I don't even know who a few of these people are? but it is pretty cool! What do you think?
